The back cover material itself is a bit disappointing - flimsy, dull and feels like cheap paper. But because it's quite flexible and light, I just glued my favourite photos and now I have a personalised tax disc holder. Served its purpose but a bit expensive for what it is. The magnetic bond is quite weak but enough to hold one tax disc and one photo cut-out.

I wish manufacturers would not rush into something before thinking of the consumer. There is a tiny bit of paper with ‘quick start’ on it and in microscopic print the name of the web site ndrive.com in case you wanted to see the manual. The working is intuitive touch-screen but a lot is not explained. My lady with the nice voice has disappeared. There is no directions to download music etc. VERY frustrating but when it works it’s good. Please, someone, do us a decent manual. The kit deserves it. I have been buying technical toys for 15 years but this one beats me

Yes there is a Q and A on the website but they have obviously written it themsleves and not from the users point of view. It’s a toss up between returning it and soldiering on.

Review by G. COLE for Navman iCN550 GPS Navigation System With UK & European Mapping Rating: Navman have told me that they discontinued maunfacture of this item nearly four years ago and discontinued support over a year ago. You cannot buy new maps (which are well out of date).

You can get much better and more up to date products - which are still supported by the manufacturers.

I also bought an extra map card so I could use it in France. The first good thing I found was that the car mount was versatile enough to fit on the nose of the tank on my Fazor 1000 and gave me good vision of the screen even when using a tank bag. The second is that the external speaker socket allows you to hear the voice guidance via speaker inserts in your helmet. Even iPod ear pods will do at a push. I don't go out in the rain so lack of waterproofing is not a problem to me,
Drawbacks, firstly not quite as fast in response as the TomTom, may be 50 metres behind your actual position which can be a pain at complex junctions. Secondly very limited battery life and coupled with that the carholder blanks off the mini-A usb connector so you are forced to use the dedicated car charger. Thirdly, on minor roads it is unable to decide which is the dominant road, so no voice assisted turning directions.
