I have been tinkering with the idea of purchasing a cassette to MP3 device for some time and after reviewing the comments about the ION device I decided to go with this unit instead and I’m pretty happy that I did. The unit is quit well made and has a solid feel to it. The installation of the software is very simple and was up and running within 5 minutes.
The item does exactly what it says on the tin, and I would of given it a 5 apart from a few little issues with the software, these are the software will automatically set a file name for the MP3 which is being recorded which can only be re-named once the conversion has completed, and on a few times when I have completed the recording the software reports an error and shuts down, but a as a work around I have found if you pause the recording first then stop it the software does not crash.
With all said and done this is a great little device to transfer cassettes to MP3′s

The company that sold me this device were brilliant. They delivered it extremely quickly, so quick that I wasn’t expecting it! The product arrived in good condition with all parts.
The product itself is easy enough to use. However, I would recommend not installing the software that comes with it. Just use the sound recorder than comes with Windows. For some reason I could never get the software to see the device, I’m using Windows 7, so I just recorded using the sound recorder mentioned.
All in all, an excellent product!

Like first review I too have been looking for a simple casette converter but after reading other product reviews decided against until this one.
I decided to give it a go after reading J Palmer review and very pleased I did. Software Installed on a Vista Laptop no problem. Instructions not too good as input control for recording is also the volume control but once I became aware no problem.I thought the levels were fixed on unit and adjusted on computer. So far have Copied 3 45min audio recordings no problem. Lets hope it proves reliable as have lots of tapes.

This is a portable cassette player (Walkman type) with a USB connection. The supplied software didn’t work, and when I contacted the email help, I was told that: “We have noted a small number of users are experiencing a problem with their software. This problem can occur on all operating systems. The problem is due to an as-of-yet undiagnosed incompatibility between the cassette software and the configuration of the individual PC being used. Our software team is investigating the issue and we regret that we are unable to provide a solution at this time. We therefore advise you to use a different software program called Audacity”.
I downloaded the Audacity software, and was then able to convert the tapes to MP3 files.
There are are several points to note:
1) You could do exactly the same thing using a standard portable cassette player, and connecting the headphone output to the audio input of your PC.
2) The quality of the sound is not great – there is audible background noise. Much better results are obtained by using a cassette player on a Hi-fi system, and connecting the line output to the PC. I have done this for some time and I only bought this device because my hi-fi cassette player appeared to be broken.
3) I cannot play the tapes directly on my PC. I can only do this using the Audacity software. There may be some audio settings which enable this but I have been unable to find them.
4) I acquired a bug in my PC while downloading the Audacity software which required a System restore – this may have been nothing to do with the download but I haven’t bothered to download Audacity again. I have used software called Total Recorder (not free) for some time, and find this works very well for a variety of audio recording jobs.

I am still trying to find out how to use this product. The instructions seem incomplete. Inspite of that the bits I have succeeded in recording sounded good. I am sure when I finally learn how to use it, it will be invaluable.
